Context:  Plastic pigments have also been adapted by Nippon Paper Industries to give high gloss paper on conventional double coating facilities. Precoating is with a typical pigment coat. Top coating is with a styrene-acrylic plastic pigment, of glass transition temperature 102°C, but without an adhesive. A coat weight of under 1 g/m² gave about 70% paper gloss, which gave nearly 90% after supercalendering.
