Definition:  Fixed device in a refiner fitted with metal blades.

Context:  Refining (beating when done in a beater, but sometimes used interchangeably) consists of passing the fibers between 2 surfaces, separated by a very narrow gap. Where only 1 surface rotates, the rotating part is called the rotor and the static part the stator, with the actual configuration depending on the refining equipment. Where both surfaces rotate, they do so in opposite directions.
