Definition:  Pulp produced by forcing wood against a huge revolving abrasive stone.

Context:  The different processes used influence pulp quality and are usually specified: groundwood (or stone groundwood) (SGW); pressure groundwood (PGW), similar to the SGW except that it is carried out at higher temperature and higher than atmospheric pressure; refiner mechanical pulp (RMP); or thermomechanical pulp (TMP), also a refined pulp, which has largely replaced RMP, carried out at higher temperatures and atmospheric pressures using steam preheating of chips.
