Definition:  Rod placed on a rod coater, whose function is to meter the coating colour applied on the paper surface.

Context:  Blade and rod coaters may be categorized by the mode of color application (pressure or contact), by the dwell time of the color before it is finally metered by a blade or rod (short, medium or long) and by the type of metering (beveled blade, bent blade, rod or air knife).
