Definition:  Headbox formed by a closed rectangular tank in which pressure is created, in order to determine the jet speed.

Context:  Headboxes can be categorized, depending on the required speed of stock delivery, as open or pressurized types. Pressurized headboxes can be further divided into air-cushioned and hydraulic designs.

Notes 1:  This term is often used as a synonym of air-cushioned headbox.
Notes 2:  The adjective “pressurized” is the American variant of “pressurised”. We have adopted the America spelling, since the British one is rarely used.
Notes 3:  The pressurized headbox represents an evolution of the open headbox, in which the discharge head is provided solely by a gravity head of stock. This type of headbox is not used for the manufacture of coated papers.
