Definition:  Felt placed at the beginning of the press section that transfers the wet web of paper from the fourdrinier table, the hybrid former or the twin wire former to the wet presses.

Context:  Pickup felt. Felt used with a suction pickup. In addition to those properties required by all wet felts, the pickup felt must have adequate surface fineness to promote a water film between the wet sheet and the felt which, in turn, provides surface tension to prevent drop.
