While all machines are equipped with instruments and control systems as just described, certain imperfections in the product cannot be deduced from normal process control measurements, and can only be detected by diagnostic investigations. Proper resolution requires the use of specialized techniques and instruments to measure and analyze various physical and chemical conditions in the process, usually dynamically.
