Context:
On a fourdrinier table, the velocity difference between jet and wire creates shear through the thickness of the stock which further increases fiber orientation in the machine direction and contributes to turbulence, depending on its magnitude. The increased orientation is more marked on the wire side, a major cause of curl in many papers. Consequently, the efflux ratio is often controlled to minimize this effect.
