Definition:  Process of drying paper on the paper machine, most commonly by passing the damp sheet over a series of steam-heated cylinders, called dryer cylinders.

Context:  Because drying is such a high energy user, it is always worthwhile to increase mechanical water removal in the forming section and especially during pressing to reduce the evaporation load to the dryers, even at the cost of slightly higher electrical energy demands in those sections.
