Definition:  Dyes characterized by an especially high attraction to cellulose, good solubility and high fixing speed.

Context:  Direct dyes give less bright colors than acid and basic dyes, but with generally better light fastness. A dye fixing agent is sometimes used to improve water fastness. Eg: Fastusol (BASF), Levacell, Pontamine (Bayer), Diphenyl, Pergasol, Solophenyl (Ciba), Carta, Cartasol (Clariant), Intrabond, Intralite, Sol-Aqua-Fast (Crompton), Pamanil (PYOSA), Durazol, Methic (Stahl Industrial Colorants).
