Definition:  Coating method in which the freshly coated paper is pressed onto the surface of a highly-polished chromium-plated drying cylinder and carried on the cylinder until the coating colour is dried.
Definition source:  EN 9
Context:  Cast coating, in contrast to the above coating methods, is a much slower process. In a single operation, a relatively heavy coating (15 - 30 g/m²) is applied to one side of the sheet and the coated side is immediately pressed against a large-diameter mirror-polished chromium-plated drying cylinder. The sheet remains in contact with the dryer surface until the coating is dry. In one of several variants to the process, the binder is insolubilised by chemical or heat treatment immediately before the coating contacts the cylinder (1).
