Pronunciation
Subdomain (1st level):  Properties
Subdomain (2nd level):  Physical properties
Grammatical category:  Complex term
Grammar notes:  Uncountable
Definition:  Index of sheet porosity, obtained by measuring the flow rate of air through a sample sheet (of specified dimensions) under standardized conditions of pressure difference, temperature and humidity.
Definition source:  EN 9
Context:  Porosity is a measure of a paper’s fractional void volume and is not a particularly informative property in itself. Tests that give additional information are air permeability and oil penetration. Resistances to air flow and oil penetration depend on the number and sizes of pores within the structure and are relevant properties for printing and absorbent tissue grades.
